Transfer Applicants

Transfer students bring unique insights and experiences to the classroom and contribute significantly to our community. Every year, we welcome nearly 500 new transfer students who have done well at their prior college or university and are seeking the type of experience and education offered at USF.

You may apply as a transfer student if you have graduated from high school and are currently or have been enrolled at another college or university, or you would like to pursue a second bachelor's degree.  Find a program that suits your academic interests at our main campus in San Francisco, or one of branch campuses throughout the Bay Area.

Main Campus Programs for Transfer Students

Applicants should complete 24 semester credits or 36 quarter-units of transferable coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be competitive for admission. We will consider applicants with fewer earned credits if they present a strong high school record and standardized test scores. Students must be in good academic standing at the last institution attended. Good standing is defined as a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, including at least a 2.0 GPA in the most recent semester of college course work completed.

  • Common Application: Submit a completed Common Application with the application fee by the application deadline.
  • Official Transcripts: Students must submit separate, official transcripts from all colleges or universities previously attended.  These records are required whether or not credit was earned or is desired, and should be sent directly from the registrar's office to our Office of Admissions.
  • Letter of Recommendation: Letters can come from an academic advisor, professor or an employer. It should be mailed separately by the individual providing the reference or sent with other application documents in a sealed envelope.
