USF Scholarships

We offer both merit- and need-based scholarships for full-time undergraduate students. They don’t need to be repaid, but you must retain Satisfactory Academic Progress to keep your scholarship(s) each year.

Merit-based Scholarships

Great news: You’ll automatically be considered for merit scholarships (to be used for tuition only) when you apply to USF. No separate application is required.

Merit scholarships are based on your USF-calculated GPA and/or your test scores. Applying test optional? You’ll still be considered based on your high school coursework and USF-calculated GPA.

You’ll find out if you were offered any merit scholarships in your decision letter, if you are admitted to USF. Unfortunately, merit scholarships are not available for students applying to USF's Sacramento nursing program.

Transfer student merit scholarships

Transfer students are eligible for merit awards up to $16,000 toward the cost of tuition. These merit scholarships are determined by your transfer GPA at the time of application. Learn more about transfer merit scholarships.

International student merit scholarships

International transfer students are eligible for merit-based scholarships up to $16,000 toward the cost of tuition.

International first-year students are eligible for merit-based scholarships up to $27,000 toward the cost of tuition.

USF does not offer full-tuition scholarships for international students, and international students are not eligible for need-based financial aid.

Need-based Scholarships

When you submit a FAFSA or CA Dream Act application, you will be considered for additional USF grants and scholarships (to be used for tuition only) based on your demonstrated financial need.

To be eligible for these need-based scholarships and grants, you must submit a FAFSA or CA Dream Act application by the deadline.

Athletic Scholarships

Athletic scholarships are offered for inter-collegiate participation in:

  • Women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field and volleyball
  • Men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field
