11 Tips for Settling In at USF

New to San Francisco? Here are some ways to make it your home

by Evan Elliot, USF News

When you arrive at USF, “it’s important to take a moment to breathe, ground yourself in your new environment, and explore,” said Lester Deanes, assistant vice president of student engagement. “You can start by getting to know what’s around you on campus and in the surrounding area.”

Get Involved
Make friends. Build skills. Serve others. Learn to lead. At USF, you can join student government, explore the Cultural Centers, and choose from more than 100 student clubs and organizations.

Get Around
Make the Most of Muni. Take unlimited rides around the city on Muni buses and streetcars with your USF Muni Mobile Pass.
Take a Shuttle. For safe, free transportation to and from campus, look to USF shuttle services.
Catch a Ride from the Airport. International student? The International Student and Scholar Services office offers a free shuttle service from San Francisco International Airport to the USF campus for the fall 2023 semester. Register here.

Dig In
Check out six eateries across campus — including Koret Lodge, a dining pavilion with a view of the bay and downtown.

Explore Downtown
USF’s Downtown Campus is just steps from San Francisco Bay, Oracle Park, restaurants, museums, internships, and jobs. Look around campus and then head to the Ferry Building for lunch.

Stay Safe
The department of Public Safety works 24–7 to ensure the safety of everyone on the USF campus. Public Safety officers provide safety escorts when the shuttle is not in service.

Nourish Your Spirit
University Ministry welcomes students of all religions, beliefs, and identities. Look to this office for retreats, faith and culture communities, global immersions, and opportunities to volunteer.

Let your voice be heard. The Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good encourages you to vote.

Get Help With Housing
Find off-campus housing, find roommates, and get house-hunting advice from the Office of Off-Campus Living.
