Student Leadership and Engagement understands that you seek out involvement and leadership for a variety of reasons, including serving others, networking, building skills, discovering yourself, making new friends, and creating change. No matter what your interests are, make the most out of your USF experience by getting involved and becoming a part of the exciting things happening on campus.
Our mission is to provide programs and services that support students' leadership development and promote student engagement in co-curricular activities. USF encourages its students to change the world from here.

The Phoenix is a weekly e-newsletter that promotes undergraduate and graduate student events, leadership programs, and involvement opportunities hosted by USF departments and student organizations.
Two student governments operate at USF. The ASUSF Senate represents undergraduate student. The Graduate Student Senate represents graduate students. Students are elected to all positions for for governments.
The Associated Students of USF (ASUSF) Senate is the premier organization that advocates for student voices to be heard and carried forward, in order to inspire progress and promote positive change in the USF community.
ASUSF Senate strives to ensure that every voice, concern and suggestion to improve USF is heard by addressing the needs of our constituents through compromise and cooperation. Find out about open seats on Senate or our committees, or get in touch with your representatives.
ASUSF Senate creates legislation to address the needs of students at USF. Our resolutions are aimed either at issues that affect students or at improving our own structure. Passed resolutions by the ASUSF Senate will be frequently updated throughout the school year. Graduate Student Senate
The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) was created to represent, lead, and unify the Associated Graduate Students of the University of San Francisco, to achieve the betterment of the students in their professional and social interests, and to promote the coordination of activities and events for the graduate student population.
Our external affairs, finance, internal affairs, and mission committees provide graduate students with opportunities to be involved in decision making and gain experience in event planning, finance, policy, social justice initiatives, and more. All committees meet monthly on Monday evenings.
The GSS provides a variety of funding opportunities for graduate students, including:
- Initiative funding: Students wishing to pursue professional development opportunities — such as conference registration and conference travel — can be awarded up to $400 per semester.
- Student leadership awards: Each award comes with $1,000.
- Student organizations: Graduate student organizations are eligible to apply for event funding and internal development funding.
Each year Student Leadership and Engagement offers programs that provide students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and abilities.
This program cultivates leaders by helping students develop knowledge of self, others, and community. First-year students may participate in this program in either the fall or the spring. Sophomores are eligible to apply but are not guaranteed a spot.
The McGrath Scholars Program is an opportunity for students to enroll in a unique, 2-credit leadership course and join an exceptional cohort of peers, further enhance their skills, and engage in an experiential project.
Each year, Student Leadership and Engagement hosts events that provide students with the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills and abilities.
Involvement is the stepping stone to leadership development and makes the college experience more enjoyable while enhancing classroom learning. Held each semester, the Involvement Fair provides a venue for students to discover all available involvement opportunities. Clubs, organizations, and select departments greet students and share their positive experiences about being involved. Involvement is just around the corner!
Student Leadership Conference
The Student Leadership Conference is a day-long leadership conference open to ALL students at USF. Throughout the day, program sessions will be offered from a diversity of presenters to provide student leaders with foundational leadership skills and personal development.
Student Leadership Awards
This awards ceremony celebrates students whose leadership has contributed to the growth, development, and vitality of USF and the broader community. Nominations and applications are accepted in the spring semester.
