Biography

Ellen V. Leonida is the forensic staff attorney for the Northern District of California Federal Public Defender’s Office. She received her BA from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her JD from the University of California at Berkeley. Ms. Leonida worked for the Contra Costa County Public Defender’s office for nine years before going into private practice in San Francisco. She has been an assistant federal public defender in the Northern District of California since 2010. 

Ms. Leonida has done more than 80 jury trials. She taught Criminal Pre-trial Litigation at UC Berkeley Law School and has lectured nationally on a variety of topics, including digital forensics, Fourth Amendment implications of emerging technologies, and DNA.
