University Ministry

University Ministry supports the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of the USF community. We enrich the USF experience by creating communities grounded in Ignatian spirituality and the Jesuit Catholic mission of USF.

University Ministry supports the spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs of the University of San Francisco community.

At University Ministry, we support and encourage USF students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all religions, beliefs and identities, to connect their faith, spirituality, and values with social justice and solidarity with the poor, and with care for the earth, our common home, in order to realize the fullness of our humanity, and lead lives of meaning and purpose. This is at the core of the Jesuit Catholic mission at USF and Ignatian spirituality, a spirituality for everyday life. We invite you to consider how God is present in our world and active in our lives. At UM, we provide pathways to deeper prayer, good decisions guided by keen discernment, and an active life of service to others.

Immersions, Social Justice, and Volunteering

Our Arrupe Initiatives offer local and global experiences, designed to open participant’s eyes to the realities of the world and challenge them into action. Be it through immersions, social justice engagement, and volunteer programs, you will reflect on your experience and develop relationships of compassion, justice, and advocacy.

Faith Formation and Interfaith Programs

Our faith formation programs offer opportunities for you to explore your spiritual potential. Resident ministers connect students to our wide variety of programs and social justice opportunities. Programs for faculty and staff explore the Jesuit mission, deepen spiritual practices, and enrich professional vocations. Our interfaith programs foster deeper understanding, cooperation, and respect among our community of varied faiths.

Liturgy, Prayer, and Retreats

USF celebrates weekly student mass in St. Ignatius Church, signature liturgies during the school year, and more intimate worship services in the residence halls. Retreats offered throughout the year create sacred spaces and opportunities for the USF community to become reflective, spiritually attentive, engaged, rejuvenated, and active.

My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together."
