    • You will submit your documents upon submission of the Certification Request Form after you are registered for your courses.
    • For Chapter 30 and 33 (Post-9/11), please submit your current Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and DD214 (Discharge Papers, if applicable, with SSN redacted).
      • If the benefit is transferred to you, please provide the COE addressed to your name.
    • For Chapter 31 (VRE), please provide your DD214 (with SSN redacted) and have your counselor provide your authorization to
    • For Chapter 35 (Dependent Education Assistance), or Chapter 1606 please provide your current COE.

  • For Post 9/11 (Ch 33) students, with the passing of the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act, the housing stipend is based on where the majority of classes take place. Students at the main San Francisco campus and downtown campus will receive the San Francisco housing rate. Students who are primarily at the additional campuses will receive the pay rate based on the branch campus zip code. View the VA website for more information »

    Chapter 35 Dependents Educational Assistance and Ch 1606 MGIB students do not receive a monthly housing stipend.

  • Newly admitted students generally receive the housing stipend at the beginning of the second full month of school. The amount will include any back pay that is owed. Regular payments can be expected at the beginning of the subsequent months until the end of the certified term.

    Please note: USF has no control or influence over time it takes the VA to process housing stipends. Questions regarding the housing stipend can be directed to the VA at (888) 442-4551.

  • Due to VA and federal regulations, the visiting student must meet one of the following conditions to receive certification from USF:

    • The student has an approved parent letter from the home institution which guarantees that the courses can be transferred back to the original program.
    • The student is pending admission for a USF degree program and the course(s) will count towards the pending degree program.
  • The University of San Francisco is approved to certify benefits for degree programs only. We do not certify certificate programs.

Tuition and Billing

  • Please view the VA rate table for the current Chapter 33 (Post-9/11) annual tuition and fees cap. USF is listed as ‘Private or Foreign School’ under Institutions of Higher Learning.

  • Students may not use military tuition assistance at USF.

  • The tuition deposit cannot be waived and the VA does not cover this fee.

Undergraduate Students

  • Military service members will have to meet the same requirements for admission as any other applicant.

    University of San Francisco will consider awarding credit for military service after admission. However, admission is based solely on academic coursework and a military transcript cannot be used for admissions purposes. Typically, these units can fulfill general elective requirements but not core requirements.

  • Beginning with Fall 2020, USF will be test-optional and will not require the submission of SAT or ACT scores with your application.

  • No, the College Tuition Fee Waiver applies only to California state community college, colleges, and universities.

  • The enrollment certification team will continue to review your eligibility to participate in the yellow ribbon program. The university offers a semester installment plan, applicable financial aid via the FAFSA, or a parent PLUS loan. See additional scholarship information »

  • You will receive the full housing allowance if you are registered for a minimum of twelve credits for the fall and spring semesters, and a minimum of six credits for the summer semester.
