
Kiriyama Endowment Programs
Supported by the Kiriyama Endowment, the Center’s Kiriyama Fellowship programs bring emerging and established scholars to the USF campus to pursue innovative research, contribute to teaching, deliver public lectures, and engage with students. These fellowships advance impactful scholarship and foster dynamic intellectual exchange across disciplines.
Kiriyama Professor
This short‑term visiting professor position brings a recognized leader in Asia Pacific Studies to the University of San Francisco to teach and conduct research aligned with the Center for Asia Pacific Studies’ mission - focusing on intercultural, cross‑cultural, or transnational issues, and/or explore how religious, ethical, and cultural understanding can help bridge cultures.
In recent years, the Center has hosted distinguished scholars who spend the spring semester in residence, offering an undergraduate or graduate seminar (or a three‑part graduate workshop) while advancing their own research projects.

- Ability and willingness during the appointment to promote the Center for Asia Pacific Studies with their connections among both domestic and global academic communities

Kiriyama Postdoctoral Fellows
The Kiriyama Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to support the early career development of a recent PhD by providing opportunities to gain administrative, teaching, and research experience. While in residence at USF, the Postdoctoral Fellow will serve as the academic coordinator for the Center’s Asia Bridge Fellowship Program and pursue their own scholarly work. Past Kiriyama Fellows have also taught undergraduate and graduate courses and contributed as guest editors for the center’s academic journal.
