The University of San Francisco to Confer Degrees Upon More Than 1,200 Graduates at Commencement Ceremonies on December 16

SAN FRANCISCO (December 15, 2022) — The University of San Francisco (USF) will hold its 164th commencement ceremonies on Friday, December 16 at St. Ignatius Church on the USF campus. The December 2022 graduates include 502 undergraduate students, 761 graduate students, and 34 doctoral students.

“Those earning Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees this week have done so in the extraordinary context of a global pandemic - and all the other crises that we face,” said USF President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J. “Our graduates have succeeded in their studies because of their tenacity, mutual aid, and reliance on God’s grace. I am especially grateful for the generous commitment of the faculty, staff and administrators whose devotion was essential.”

Members of this graduating class hail from 43 countries around the globe, and from 41 states and U.S. Territories. Continuing USF’s commitment to access, 470 of the graduating students are first-generation college students.

“As a first generation college student and first in my family to pursue a career in medicine, there were numerous obstacles that I wouldn’t have been able to overcome without the support of my nursing friends and faculty at USF,” stated Uzma Gowher ‘22, School of Nursing and Health Professions graduate. “The Jesuit tradition and values of USF prepared me to become a holistic nurse that extends care beyond the illness, and to consider one’s psychological, emotional, and spiritual dimensions.”

Nursing, data science, public health, and education are among the top majors of this distinguished USF class. These graduates will join more than 125,000 USF alumni around the world.

“I feel very fortunate to have spent these past two years at USF building friendships, mentorships, and connections that we will carry beyond the time we spent learning within these classrooms,” said School of Nursing and Health Professions graduate Courtney Clark ‘22. “There have been unique challenges posed to the graduating class of 2022, and I hope we will continue to face problems head on and with grace, to change the world from wherever we are.”

The USF December 2022 Commencement Schedule is listed below. All events are ticketed, and will be held in-person at St. Ignatius Church on the USF campus, as well as live-streamed.
