by Elliott Gentile, Office of Development communications

University of San Francisco alumni, students, and supporters came out in droves Tuesday, February 25, for the sixth annual Day of the Dons. This fast-paced, 24-hour day of giving was the most successful Day of the Dons yet.

In honor of USF’s founding year, 1885, this year’s goal was to attract 1,885 donors and to unlock a $300,000 gift from the Board of Trustees. The USF community joined forces to blow this goal out of the water. 2,582 total donors contributed a combined $639,287. Since the inaugural Day of the Dons, participation has doubled and contribution amounts have nearly tripled.

This year students enjoyed a Mardi Gras Carnival at the University Center, complete with a live jazz band, caricature and balloon artists, carnival games and sweet treats. The celebration continued on with a Mardi Gras themed coffee happy hour in the late afternoon.

The funds raised from Day of the Dons go directly into over 112 programs, scholarships, athletic initiatives and schools on campus.

The top 5 giving areas by donor count on Day of the Dons were:

  • Athletics
  • USF Fund
  • Data Institute
  • School of Law Assembly Fund
  • Student Life

The sixth annual Day of the Dons was made possible with the support from generations of Dons coming together to support the future of our students as they fuel change in their communities.

All gifts made on Day of the Dons support Changing the World From Here: Campaign for the University of San Francisco.
