I attended last year’s California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions (CIBHS) 12th Annual Statewide Conference — Integrating Substance Use, Mental Health, and Primary Care Services Integration From the Ground Up — held in Universal City, California, with speaker, Michael Botticelli, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy.

The main theme of the conference was the focus on strong foundation in recovery practices and community partnerships that have been forged. It focused on the interplay between integrated services health care system hopes to create the diverse and unique resources and assets now provided with our communities.

Meeting the needs of all our communities means providing safe, effective, well-coordinated services that address the unique needs, values, and cultures of those being served. The conference provided its attendees with valuable "take-home" skills that can be implemented immediately, helped identify emerging best practices for treating complex needs, and helped attendees identify and coordinate services to improve health care integration and collaboration for mental health, primary care, and substance use disorder services.
