The University of San Francisco Honors 2026 Gellert Family Business Award Winners: 606 Restaurant and Pet Camp
The University of San Francisco (USF) School of Management is pleased to announce 606 Restaurant and Pet Camp as the recipients of the 2026 Gellert Family Business Awards.
The annual award recognizes extraordinary business achievement and community service from selected families-in-business. The awardees will be honored during a reception on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Handlery Room on the USF campus.
“What is unique to independent, family-owned companies is their long-term focus on service continuity in their communities,” said Dr. Monika Hudson, director of the USF Gellert Family Business Center. As Advisory Board Chair Luis Agurto noted, “We are pleased this year’s awardees include small and larger established enterprises from a range of industries.”
“Pet Camp is honored to receive the 2026 Gellert Family Business Award,” remarked Mark Klaiman, owner of Pet Camp. “We are grateful to the Pet Camp counselors, pet parents, and of course the campers that have become part of the wider Pet Camp family over the past 29 years. While one family may own Pet Camp, it is this larger family that makes Pet Camp where ‘pets do what pets love’.”
School of Management Associate Dean Courtney Masterson noted that, “My family used Pet Camp for many years to care for our previous dog, and I can attest to the care they provide for pets, owners, and employees.”
The owners of Restaurant 606, Eugene, Alvin and Theresa Lau, expressed similar sentiments and noted, “Restaurant 606 is thrilled to be back in the neighborhood, recovered from the pandemic, and bringing our unique twist to the local food scene.”
As part of the award recognition, USF School of Management professors and students will work with both companies to provide a comprehensive, individualized assessment of business assistance that USF can provide, including intern placements. Types of assistance could include marketing or technical aid, succession planning, or referral and networking strategies. The goal of the program is to create mutually beneficial partnerships where USF students learn from local, successful family businesses, while providing them with the latest resources and business knowledge to support their efforts to thrive.
