The application process is entirely online. No items need to be mailed, upload all of your application items to your application account.

  1. Create an account. Then, complete the application at your own pace.
  2. Ensure that your uploaded documents are easy to view online.
  3. Complete all required sections.
  4. Save often, submit once. You may access and update your application as many times as you like before submission. You are encouraged to submit your completed application a few weeks before the deadline.

Application Requirements

Basic Skills Requirement (BSR): Applicants must show proof of completion of Basic Skills OR proof of attempting the CBEST prior to the first day of class.

There are many ways to complete this requirement, including through prior coursework. Please see this guide for more information. Applicants will be evaluated for meeting the BSR during the admission process, and notified if they must attempt the CBEST prior to enrollment.

Subject Matter Competency (SMR): Teacher candidates must show proof of subject matter knowledge prior to beginning whole class instruction (Student Teaching or Internship Status). SMR can be satisfied in a variety of ways. Please see the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing - Subject Matter Requirements site for more information. Candidates will be evaluated and notified of their SMR status during their first semester at USF.
