Why Choose USF for an MA in Professional Communication?

Communication experts are at the vortex of every strategic decision and business initiative a company or organization makes, and our guide covers the common job titles, skill sets, and experiences of a communication professional.
What Careers Do Graduates Hold?
Graduates from the program bring a thorough knowledge and advanced communication skills to careers in a range of sectors — including technology, government, finance, health services, academia, and many other sectors where communications skills are highly valued.
Do You Need a Background in Communication?
You don’t need a communication background to apply. We welcome students from a wide range of fields — including business, the fine arts and humanities, nursing, medicine, and more. This diversity allows you to engage in communications from a variety of viewpoints.
Are There Opportunities for Real World Connections?
Industry resources are built into the program and curriculum, providing opportunities for you to gain the experience to succeed. Adjunct faculty are working in the field and share their real-world knowledge and skills, with respected professionals participating in our Speakers Series each semester.
- Guidance from industry experts: Communication leaders from top organizations such as Levi Strauss & Co., Charles Schwab, FleishmanHillard, IQ360, and more share their experiences and advice with you during the program and after you graduate.
- Internships: You may participate in the internship course to earn credits for relevant work experience. Our staff will support you in preparing for the internship and offer guidance while you gain relevant professional experience to prepare for the job search after graduation.
- Shape our story: Each semester, you may be selected to join a small student team that manages the MAPC brand. You create content, plan events, run social channels, and support projects that represent the program — giving you hands-on practice in messaging, storytelling, and communication strategy.
