Aliyah Hawkins
Hi everyone, I’m Aliyah! I’m currently working toward my master’s in Sport Management at USF. After earning my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, I realized I wanted to explore the business side of sports and learn more about what happens behind the scenes. Since starting at USF, I’ve had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, explore different areas of the sports industry, and build a network of people who have helped me grow both personally and professionally.
The program has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, allowed me to learn from people with different experiences, and given me more confidence in where I want to take my career in sports. I’m always happy to chat and share my experience, so feel free to reach out with any questions about the program, classes, internships, careers in sports, or adjusting to grad school!
Leena Sanchez
Hi all! I'm a current student in PSM Biotechnology program, bringing a strong foundation in molecular biology to the world of business development. I earned my bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology from UC Merced before pursuing my master's. I have interned at a few biotech companies here in San Francisco and I now work with an organization that supports life science companies across California.
I apply my scientific background to my role in business development everyday and this program has been a driving force in my career journey. I am always happy to chat with anyone interested!
Sofia Iantorno
Hi! I’m Sofia Iantorno, a second year master's student in the MS in Applied Economics program at USF. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a specialization in Quantitative Analysis and a minor in Italian from San Diego State University.
I chose the Applied Economics program at USF because of its emphasis on combining economics with data science, as well as its stunning location in San Francisco. The Applied Economics program focuses on building knowledge in programming languages like Python and R through courses like econometrics and machine learning.
I am happy to chat about coursework, work and study balance, adjusting to grad school, or any other related questions. Feel free to reach out!

Hi! I'm Mbaire, a second-year master's student in the International and Development Economics (IDEC) program at the University of San Francisco. I'm originally from Nairobi, Kenya, and I chose IDEC because I wanted to have a better understanding of how people make economic decisions and how we can use evidence-based research to develop policies that better serve people's needs and create sustainable opportunities for underserved communities and the next generation.
This summer, I'm conducting research on how AI can improve financial literacy among women in Uganda. Outside the classroom, I serve as the Finance Representative for the Black Graduate Student Association.
