San Francisco’s Teacher of the Year honorees
Congratulations to UESJ alumna Kristia Castrillo who received the Mayor's Teacher of the Year Award!
Develop the critical frameworks and pedagogical foundations needed to teach in urban schools while pursuing your teaching credential.
Students in the Master of Arts in Teaching: Urban Education and Social Justice (MAT: UESJ) program will explore critical, transformative pedagogies as a part of their preparation to teach in urban schools. The MAT: UESJ curriculum focuses on the complex learning strengths and needs of urban students from diverse cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Candidates will learn through a combination of coursework, fieldwork, action research, and professional development activities.
Through a focus on social justice education, an increasing number of institutions are beginning to offer programs designed to prepare both current and future teachers to better educate and empower underserved youth.
