Undergraduate Programs

The African Studies Minor is an interdisciplinary program that seeks to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the history and culture of African peoples in Africa and the peoples of the African diaspora. The Minor spans the Humanities, the Social Sciences, and African and African-American Literature.

Although Africa faces enormous challenges in the new millennium - globalization, democratization, poverty, environmental degradation, AIDS, conflict - the continent has frequently been neglected. Explore some of these issues provides the opportunity to discover the diversity of ethnic, linguistic, religious and social traditions that have informed the rich cultural heritage of contemporary Africa.
