Art History & Museum Studies, BA

Museum Studies, Minor

This practical program serves students in diverse fields including art, design, history, English, education, science, music, anthropology, law, business, and technology who wish to either diversify their skills and pre-professional experience, or to pursue rewarding careers in museums and other cultural institutions.

All students complete a semester-long practicum in USF’s Thacher Gallery, as well as at least one 120-hour internship in a Bay Area museum or cultural institution, along with academic courses that build both professional skills and knowledge of museum studies history and theory.

I worked with the Museum Ambassador program at the de Young Museum and it was my favorite internship experience. I mentored a team of local public high school students, developing their skills as presenters and training them to teach younger elementary school students about art. It was a huge learning opportunity for me, as I got to work not just with the objects in museums but with young people who were experiencing those objects for the first time."
