Her clinical background is in medical-surgical nursing and school nursing for the special needs population. She began teaching as a clinical instructor at Austin Peay State University in 2010 while working on her Masters degree in Nursing Education. In 2014, she returned to California to teach at the University of San Francisco.

Dr. Kushner's Philosophy of Education:

Education is something that that is ever-changing and ever-evolving. It has the power to transform individuals and futures. The education process and learning experience can be described as fluid. This means that it is a continuous yet ever-changing process. People are unique individuals so therefore their educational journeys will also be unique. The knowledge gained may be the same, but how the knowledge was gained or the depth of understanding may be different for each individual student.

Nursing is an art;
and if it is to be made an art,
it requires as exclusive a devotion,
as hard a preparation,
as any painter's or sculptor's work;

for what is the having to do with
dead canvas or cold marble,
compared with having to do with the
living body - the temple of God's spirit?

It is one of the Fine Arts;
I had almost said
the finest of the Fine Arts
