For many students in the College of Arts and Sciences, that transformation begins with hands-on learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom.

I’m Sean Vincent Paredes, a senior studying nursing at USF. I grew up in a family where both parents are nurses. I was inspired by my parents taking on the caregiver role and becoming a role model for me when I was in eighth grade.

My name is Kaylok Poon, and I am a senior majoring in nursing at USF. When I think about how my nursing journey began, I always return to my grandparents. Before I opened my nursing textbook, I took care of my grandparent who had dementia, and those daily interactions taught me patience, empathy, and how to respect the dignity of others.

Switching gears from marketing at Ford to a healthcare startup might seem like a big leap. But for USF MAPC grad Hedda Damasco, it was a journey of self-discovery. Her story shows how the program encouraged her to find work that truly resonates with her values.

The 167th Commencement ceremonies of the University of San Francisco will be Dec. 12 in St. Ignatius Church, with 737 students receiving degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Management, and the School of Nursing and Health Professions.

On a career trek in November, 20 students visited Striking Distance Studios, a video game developer in San Ramon. This is one of several industry visits the Career Services Center organizes throughout the year to show students careers they might pursue.

Twelve USF students spent the fall semester teaching their peers in club sports and Greek life how to recognize, prevent, and respond to sexual violence.
