For Vicky Nguyen ’00, chief consumer investigative correspondent with NBC News and former NBC Bay Area investigative reporter and anchor, the journey to journalism began with a fateful encounter. It all started at the University of San Francisco, where a chance meeting with fellow Class of 2000 alumnus Toan Lam changed her perspective and allowed her to dream bigger.
The University of San Francisco was recognized today for providing access to students from all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds and for setting them up for higher earnings after graduation.
On a 10-day immersion in the Philippines last month, students from Monika Hudson’s Family Business Academic Global Immersion class at USF joined their counterpart students from Ateneo, a sister Jesuit university in Manila. Together, the 29 students visited five family businesses and one social enterprise, ranging from multinational companies to kitchen-table startups.
Timothy Chou’s dedication is deeply rooted in the legacy of his mother, Mary Ann Chou. A trailblazer in her own right, Mary Ann was a nurse trained at Peking Union Medical College in the 1930s and would be especially proud of her son leading the USF 2025 SONHP Crawford lecture.
