Where are you from and what is your background?
I am from Santa Ana, California, and my family is of Cuban and Mexican descent. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Oregon State University. Baseball has been a central part of my life since I was three years old, and it continues to influence both my personal and professional goals. While at Oregon State, I gained experience with a NIL startup focused on brand building and apparel, which gave me first-hand exposure to the evolving landscape of college athletics. In my senior year, I joined the Oregon State Athletics Marketing and Fan Engagement Team, where I had the opportunity to work closely with fans and athletes, execute in-game promotions, and ensure smooth event operations. These experiences solidified my desire to build a career in the sports industry.

Why did you apply for this graduate program and decide to study at USF?
I applied to this graduate program because I knew I wanted to further my education while staying close to family in Southern California. I first learned about the program through virtual information sessions, where I was impressed by the resources and opportunities available. Later, I attended a career fair at Angel Stadium and connected with USF staff, which encouraged me to visit the campus in person. During my tour, what stood out most was the strong sense of community and alumni support repeatedly emphasized by faculty and students. That network, combined with USF’s commitment to developing leaders in sport management, confirmed that USF was the right place for me to pursue my master’s degree.

What impacts has the Dean's Scholarship had on your ability to further your studies?
The Dean’s Scholarship has made it possible for me to continue my education without the immediate burden of large student loans. As a recent graduate, this scholarship has eased the transition of moving back to Southern California by giving me the financial flexibility to focus on my studies and take the time to find the right professional opportunities. Without the added pressure of having to secure full-time work right away, I have been able to fully commit to this next chapter in my education and career development.

What are your career ambitions?
My career ambition is to become a sports agent, with a particular focus on helping international athletes transition into major league sports in the United States. As someone with Cuban roots, I understand there are unique challenges that international athletes often face when adapting to a new culture, language, and system. I aspire to be a strong advocate for underrepresented athletes and to ensure they have the resources and guidance necessary to thrive both on and off the field. In the near term, I plan to continue gaining diverse experience across the sports industry, particularly in athlete development within an NCAA athletics program, to strengthen my ability to build meaningful relationships with athletes. Ultimately, I intend to pursue a law degree to complement my master’s and fully prepare for a career as a player representative.

What is something unique or interesting about you?
A unique fact about me is that I have a bucket list goal of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium. So far, I’ve been to 12 stadiums, and each one has been a memorable experience that connects back to my lifelong love of baseball.
