Ellen Veomett
Professor
Biography
Ellen Veomett is a mathematician and computer scientist, whose research applies mathematical and computational techniques to gerrymandering and redistricting, ranked choice voting, and algorithmic fairness. Her work on redistricting metrics has led her to speak with legislators and policy analysts. She and her collaborators also designed the GEO metric, which has drawn national attention in analyzing redistricting maps since the 2020 census. Her earlier research spanned metric geometry, graph coloring, and graph isoperimetric inequalities. Dr. Veomett is affiliated with the CoDE Lab and the Institute for Mathematics and Democracy, and is committed to supporting students under-represented in STEM, serving as co-PI on two NSF grants and one DOE grant focused on that goal.
