Christopher Balkissoon

Dr. Christopher Jai Balkissoon, DNP, MSN, FNP-C, RN, PCPF, PCPMF, is a Family Nurse Practitioner dedicated to advancing primary care through clinical leadership, research, and education. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice and MSN degrees from Samuel Merritt University, following fellowships in psychiatry and pain management at the University of California, Davis. With extensive experience in underserved community health, Dr. Balkissoon has provided comprehensive primary care to diverse populations, focusing on the management of chronic diseases, pain management, and the integration of mental health services.

At the Fair Oaks Health Center in San Mateo County, he leads initiatives in colon cancer screening, food insecurity, and clinical standards of care, while serving on multiple executive and advisory committees. He is also an Epic Super User and contributes to the design of population health systems. His doctoral project on hepatitis C protocol development significantly increased screening and cure rates, and he continues to advise on viral hepatitis management.

An adjunct faculty member at the University of San Francisco and Samuel Merritt University, Dr. Balkissoon has taught advanced pathophysiology, precepted DNP/FNP students, and lectured on pain and hepatitis management in primary care. His scholarship includes publications in the Journal of Community Health and the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Fluent in English and Spanish, he combines clinical expertise, data-driven practice, and health equity advocacy to advance patient care and provider education.
