MS in International and Development Economics

International and Development Economics (IDEC) alumni have built careers at leading organizations, including the World Bank, UNICEF, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, RAND, Meta, and Amazon.

  • International Field Experience — Complete summer field research or an internship in a developing or emerging economy.
  • Quantitative Training — Build expertise in econometrics, causal inference, data analysis, and applied research through four core econometrics courses.
  • One-on-One Faculty Mentorship — Work closely with faculty on research design, data collection, analysis, and thesis development.

Support For Your Success

Applicants from a range of academic and professional backgrounds are welcome. Admitted students who would benefit from additional quantitative preparation may participate in USF’s Summer Bridge Math Program. The program reviews calculus, linear algebra, statistics, hypothesis testing, and other tools used in graduate economic analysis.

A STEM Designated Graduate Degree

The IDEC is a STEM-designated program. Eligible international graduates may apply for up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training through post-completion OPT and the STEM OPT extension.
