A Letter From the Alumni Director

REUNIONS are gradually taking on a new life at USF. For starters, the Class of 1959 will be welcomed into the ranks of the Golden Alumni in the fall and members of the class formed a committee that has enthusiastically embraced the idea of planning for their 50th reunion. Also upcoming are reunions of the Class of 1969 (40th), Class of 1974 (35th), School of Nursing alumni who graduated in the ’60s, and Lone Mountain alumnae. To see how much fun reunions are, be sure to check out photos of the Class of 1968 reunion and the Lone Mountain alumnae reunion from last October on the previous page.

Since reunions are really about reconnecting with friends and former classmates, I hope you’ll take a little time to check out the alumni networks link on our Web site at www.usfca.edu/alumni . There are official Facebook, LinkedIn, and USFConnect options to help you contact and be contacted by others who share your interests. Join one network or join them all.

Speaking of connecting, do we have your current email address? A number of our communications and even some event invitations are now sent via email only, and we’d like to include you on the invitation list and keep you in the loop. This might be of particular interest to recent grads since plans are in the early stages to have some “young” alumni events in the near future. You can send us your email address at alumniemail@usfca.edu .

Finally, please be sure to send us your news for class notes. We know this is one of the first sections alumni read when they get the magazine, so take advantage of the opportunity to tell your classmates and others what’s new in your life.

We hope to hear from you!

Go Dons!

Homecoming Weekend ’09

awstruck_kid Homecoming Weekend 2009, held February 20-22, was bigger and better than ever.

Highlights included the Fr. Hubert “Hub” Flynn Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner, as well as a sold-out concert in War Memorial Gym featuring rap and hip-hop artist Lupe Fiasco. Approximately 2,000 students and young alumni attended the event.

On Feb. 21, the athletic department hosted a Fan Zone in the McLaren Complex, the Residence Hall Association sponsored a carnival with booths, games, prizes, and food for kids of all ages, and each of the schools’ and colleges’ deans hosted receptions for alumni to reconnect. All that was capped off with an exciting men’s basketball game against Santa Clara University, with USF winning 67-66 in overtime.

Although the morning of Feb. 22 brought rainy weather for the ninth annual Tom Caruso 5K Run/Walk in Golden Gate Park, runners braved the storm to honor the memory of Caruso, a University of San Francisco alumnus and distance runner.

Class of 1968 Celebrates 40th Reunion

68reunion_2Psychedelic invitations reminiscent of the summer of love arrived to announce to Class of ’68 alumni that plans had been made to celebrate their 40th reunion on Oct.18—and celebrate they did!

Those who attended had such a good time they’re still talking about the evening and hoping they don’t have to wait until their 50th reunion to get together again.

Lone Mountain Reunion

loneMountain_group Lone Mountain alumnae came back to campus Oct. 19 for their annual reunion. Special recognition was given to members of classes celebrating milestone reunions: Class of ’68 (40th reunion), Class of ’58 (50th reunion), and Class of ’48 (60th reunion).

Following a Mass, alumnae socialized at a wine reception and then enjoyed lunch together.

The alumnae also chose to honor those religious who impacted their lives:

Constance Campbell, RSCJ
Katherine Cassidy, RSCJ
Maureen Cronin, RSCJ
Barbara Dawson, RSCJ
Helen Donohoe, RSCJ
Helen Hammack, RSCJ
Lorraine Lawrence, RSCJ
Marina Mapa, RSCJ
Helen McHugh, RSCJ
Joan McKenna, RSCJ
Catherine McMahon, RSCJ
Gertrude Patch, RSCJ

This year’s Lone Mountain Alumnae reunion is scheduled for Oct. 18.
