New Staff Hiring Policy and Procedures

We are very excited that the new Staff Prehire Onboarding Process, which launched on June 1, 2012, has improved the onboarding process for hiring departments and their newly hired staff members. New hires are now able to access email, USFConnect, and other resources before their first day of work, and hiring departments can track their new staff members throughout the entire onboarding process.

Watch the HR Professional Development Workshop on Retirement Planning

We have good news for those of you who missed the August 2nd workshop on retirement planning with Joe Crowley, which covered the how and the why of a method he calls a “10-minute tweak that puts your nest egg on a higher peak.” The session was taped and can be found at: http://www.usfca.edu/hr/resource_center/.

Fit and Fabulous for Fall

Visit Koret Health and Recreation Center’s newly renovated mezzanine level (M1). It now offers new, state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, including:
  • 9 treadmills 
  • 10 AMTs (All Motion Trainers)
  • 7 ellipticals 
  • 4 upright bikes 
  • 3 step mills
  • 2 recumbent bikes 
Level M1 also features a functional training zone with 3 FreeMotion units, light dumbbells, 2 rowers and 2 spin bikes. All Precor equipment on level M1 (Upper Cardio) is fully networked with wifi, including LCD capacitive touch screen consoles, 16 TV channel options on personal viewing screens, and iPod and iPhone compatibility to personalize the user's entertainment experience.

Stay tuned for a mobile app that can track workouts both inside and outside the gym by the end of Fall.

The renovations were possible thanks to a generous grant from the Koret Foundation under the direction of Susan Koret.

Snack Better – More foods with less fat, calories and sodium

Healthy USF is striving to give you healthier food choices at work. Even relatively simple changes in your diet can help you feel livelier and more energetic. And that’s exactly what making a healthier food choice is all about – better living through better health.

Look for the green “choice plus” markers in the Canteen vending machines. When you see a “choice plus” sticker, it means that the food item in the Canteen vending machine meets new nutritional standards.  

Eyes of Hope, VSP® Vision Care’s Eyewear Donation Program

More than one billion people around the world need eyeglasses but can’t afford them. A gift of donated eyeglasses can change the lives of those in need. Seeing clearly for the first time means they can do basic things like succeed at school or work and care for their families.

The University of San Francisco community has donated more than 200 pair of eyeglasses this summer. Donations of eyeglasses are accepted year round in the Human Resources department in LMM 339.

She's Got it: A Woman's Guide to Investing and Saving
- Presented on July 24th and was attended by 75 members of the USF community.  Please keep an eye out for the date of the next presentation in the Fall.

Get Ready for Summer -
Over 115 members of the University of San Francisco community visited the Get Ready for Summer event on June 13th to prepare for smart and safe fun while enjoying the summer sun.

  • DERMASCAN screenings. Clinicians were available to discuss your results. 
  • Sunglasses testing for UVA and UVB Protection. 
  • Healthy hydration and drink selection for summer activities information was available. 
  • Lyme Disease information was available.

Participant Disclosure Notice for the University of San Francisco 401(a) Defined Contribution and 403(b) Supplemental Retirement Plans

As previously notified, an annual Participant Disclosure Notice will be provided to you as an eligible participant in the University of San Francisco Retirement Plans (‘the Plans”) on or before August 30, 2012. The Notice is a new requirement by the Department of Labor (DOL) to help participants receive sufficient information regarding their retirement plan and the investment options available to them.

The fee disclosures will include:
  • Plan Information - including investment options 
  • Fees and expenses for the investments 
  • Investment Alternatives Comparison Chart and performance data - one, five and 10-years returns information 
  • Rules related to providing investment direction and any restrictions

Over the summer, Human Resources has implemented the new staff pre-hire and on-boarding process. Read on for more about this new streamlined process.

Enroll in Direct Deposit

If you are still receiving a paper check and would like to upgrade to direct deposit, please complete and submit a Direct Deposit Authorization Agreement form to Payroll (LM 145) or HR (LM 339). The form may be downloaded at http://www.usfca.edu/hr/forms or obtained from the Payroll office.

By opting for direct deposit you can avoid lost and delayed or stolen checks which may take up to ten (10) working days for the University to cancel and reissue.

Please keep in mind that enrollment in direct deposit can take up to 30 days or one full payroll cycle to complete.
Verify Your Mailing Address

Please take a moment to verify your “Current” mailing address. You may access and update your “Current” mailing address information online through Employee Self Service. 
To view and update your mailing address: 
  1. Log into USFConnect and select the Employee Tab. 
  2. Click the "Click Here" button within the "Employee Self Service" box. 
  3. From the Employee Self Service Main Menu, click the "Personal Information" link followed by the "Addresses and Phones" Link. 
  4. Select the “Current” mailing address type. 
  5. Enter updated address information. 
Keeping your Current Address up-to-date will help ensure that you receive all of your Payroll and HR documents, including your W-2.
