Lyricist Lounge

Once a month on a Friday evening the University Center 4th Floor Lounge is transformed into Lyricist Lounge, the hippest spot in San Francisco. Students gather to hear peers address social justice issues, identity expression, experiences of oppression and triumph through spoken word poetry.

End of the Year Ceremonies

The Cultural Centers lead in coordinating four ceremonies that highlight the outstanding work our students have accomplished in the areas of service, academics, and leadership, while affirming the unique challenges and experiences they share. These include: Asian and Pacific Islander Unity Graduation (API Unity Grad), Latino Recognition Ceremony, Lavender Graduation, and Vizuri Kabisa (VK) Unity Celebration/Black Graduation Celebration

Change Agent Initiative

In collaboration with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Housing and Residential Education (SHaRE) and The McCarthy Center, the Cultural Centers invite undergraduate and graduate students to explore current social justice issues and concepts, and develop skills to interrupt injustice AND create change.

Each semester, the Cultural Centers create opportunities for students to gather based on their common identities. Recently these have included collectives for Women of Color, Queer People of Color, and Multiracial spaces.

Post Script

Once a month, the Gender and Sexuality Center hosts an open mic which features anyone who has a story to tell! Post Script is about celebrating the similarities and the differences of the human experience. No scripts. No notes. Just some good old storytelling! All are welcome and encouraged to participate.
