Arts & Culture

Innovative programs, destination museums, musical events for every ear — it's all here. USF is a place for artists, designers, architects, performers, and community members to think critically, make powerfully, and engage thoughtfully in a highly creative city.

Innovative Programs in The Heart of SF

With accomplished faculty, small studio classes, and a focus on social justice and community engagement, students have multiple artistic degree programs to choose from at USF while surrounded by the city of San Francisco. Students can major in architecture, art history & museum studies, design, or fine arts within the Department of Art and Architecture or they can pursue concentrations in dance, music, and theater within our Performing Arts and Social justice major. USF also offers a graduate program in museum studies and an undergraduate certificate in tech & design.

Street and Music Festivals

From Outside Lands to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, the J-Pop Summit to USF's Donaroo, music festivals, street fairs, and cultural celebrations are an easy way to experience the city and its diverse communities.

World-Class Museums & Performance Spaces

USF’s campus is within walking distance to the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, a short bus ride to the SFMOMA, San Francisco Ballet, and SF Opera, or an easy drive to world-class institutions in Berkeley, Oakland, Palo Alto, and San Jose. On campus, students also have access to multiple performance spaces, including the Presentation and Studio theaters, and groups like the College Players.
