I wanted to highlight this idea through my photos and design layout; Creating a mock-up of Chapters 1, 5, & 8 from Timothy Beatley’s Blue Urbanism, I chose to create a book layout that not only expressed what Blue Urbanism is—but also emphasized the richness of the sea. 0:52 SHEILA BURKE Best Buys in Space Printed Booklet 2019 5.5” x 8” Best Buys in Space is a fictional magazine that advertises for the commodification and privatization of outer space. Best Buys in Space drew source material from Megan Prelinger’s Another Science Fiction: Advertising the Space Race 1957-1962 and the advertisement style of old buyer’s guides. I chose to work with Kettle Brand Potato Chips. After choosing my product, I researched the brand and the product in comparison to their competition, and surveyed people on their personal opinions on potato chip packaging. I discovered highlights to the brand, as well as overall issues with this type of product and packaging. Consumers trusted the local and homegrown aesthetics of Kettle Brand, as well as their nutritional perks. However, they were less than impressed by the overall function of the bag from materials to opening and closure as well as size portions. From there, a new brand and packaging prototype was developed for “Potettes, Kitchiner’s Original Potato Chip” which is now aimed at a more sophisticated and mature target audience. The brand has been elevated to suit an older and more refined consumer. The packaging was made more sustainable and effective through the use of a smaller paper-made packaging, this removes a reliance on plastics in single-use items. 1:12 AERIN CASSANO HRT Syringe Hard Enamel Pin 2017 1.5” This is a hard enamel pin of a syringe with the transgender pride flag included in the design.
