[MUSIC PLAYING] My whole family has been in education. So even when I was in elementary school myself, I always pretended to be a teacher. I always wanted to be a teacher. I felt, when I was a classroom teacher, that it was a similar thing every day, and that I was working with students every day and I was impacting students every day, but it wasn't quite the same impact. I feel, as a principal, the longer you're in here, you're really making change on a large scale for all students. I have about 520 students in kindergarten through fifth grade and about 50 staff members, about 25 classroom teachers. I'm in charge of every person, every thing, and-- everything you see around you. Yeah. Welcome to being a principal. Is that the same as what you got here? Dr. Gilmore is someone who has united our community. She's been here four years, and prior to that, we had a lot of turnover with leadership. She's someone that the teachers can go to if they need resources, technology, support with a student. I graduated from the University of San Francisco's Transformative School Leadership program. USF's program was great because I could still continue as a teacher, and the program really prepares you for any position in education that you're looking for because it's really about a way of thinking that can be applied in any role. For me, to just be a learner every day is so important. And I think that's something that I try to bring back to my community here at Jefferson Elementary School. [MUSIC PLAYING]
