The more you know about history, the more you know about yourself. And if you don't know about history, it's hard to shape the future. The diversity at USF is, in my opinion, one of the most impressive things. And I think it's one of the most important things. Some of the best products and movements in our life that are really successful came from a person who wanted it for themselves. Young people, if you don't believe in yourself and your skill sets, who else is going to believe in you? Yes, you have to be prepared. You've got to have a plan, you have to have a vision. But your players and the people around you, they're going to know if you're authentic, if you're real. And so you want your authenticity, whoever you are as a leader, you want that to come out. Naomi and I started the Silk Speaker series to do multiple things-- enhance what our students are learning in the classroom, to provide them some real life experiences that they can take with them for the rest of their lives. And hopefully, we can connect our students to our alumni and make our USF community that much stronger. Jeff and Naomi Silk have given us this tremendous gift which enriches the education of our current students, as well as gives our alumni a chance for really, really fascinating ongoing education around issues of great importance, especially in the whole area of finance. A good, well-functioning financial system is essential for growth and economic development of an economy. The Silk series has been an incredible opportunity for both alumni and current students to really come together and learn from different leaders. We're connecting with other alumni, we're connecting with faculty, and we're talking about ideas. My belief is, we have to refocus our thinking away from average returns or average performance relative to a benchmark, and go to compound returns. Silk Series is known for bringing in top influential male and female leaders. So, I'm looking for advice to help me really stand out in my future career, to help me be the leader that I know I can be. Affect change. Get involved-- in your school, in the community, and then go touch somebody else's life who is less fortunate than your own. People have loved participating and attending these speaker series events. This isn't just a moment, but a movement. And that we find tangible actions that everyone can play their role and play their part. When you're doing something you love and you're passionate about it, the people you meet, the places that you go, the world starts to open up. And that's where your life becomes interesting. Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God, is a recipe for a good life.
