[MUSIC PLAYING] My name is Monica Bejarano. My name's Calyn Kelley. My name is Molly Marsh, and I'm in the masters of Urban and Public Affairs-- --at the University of San Francisco. The mission of USF is largely designed around this idea of service and engagement with the community. The Urban and Public Affairs program is really one of the places where we live that mission. Our students through their internships end up out in the field, doing work that immediately helps communities and developing both the students' network and our own. I interned with Episcopal Community Services, and they run two of the biggest shelters. Quite a few different programs with the homeless population here in the city. I was able to tap into those resources. One of my professors used to be the city comptroller, and so I could ask him, like, what's the budget process actually like? Like, I'm supposed to help with my internship, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Know that the professors have worked in the field, and they know what's going on, and they want to help their students. It's been a great experience. I'm interning in the General Services Agency's Early Care and Education program within the county of Alameda. There's a legislative bill tracker, which basically tracks all of the bills with regard to early care and education, and I closely monitor that. And I've been given the opportunity to do public comment in front of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. I've been given the opportunity to speak before the Hayward Board of Education. I've been able to speak in front of so many different groups. My internship was specifically with PODER. They are a nonprofit organization here in San Francisco. And it stands for People Organizing for Environmental and Economic Justice. So that was a really great theory to practice, and it really went along with what we learned during the year. You know, practicing community organizing, how to understand politics and policies actually in effect when it comes to the community. This internship has definitely set a great trajectory for me, and also for my other cohort members to be able to go out into fields that we love so much and commit ourselves as public servants.
