San Francisco is very much a city on the Pacific and there's so many opportunities here to think about how this city is connected to Asia I think the most unique feature of the maps program is its interdisciplinary stance map students all understand that they're gonna study from a lot of different academic viewpoints they're gonna study history we're gonna study literature we're going to study philosophy with the study Business and Economics and that studying from all of those viewpoints has advantages it is not a disadvantage to understand Asia from a lot of different perspectives what I enjoy about working with graduate students is their enthusiasm and their commitment and particularly the map students they're coming from many different walks of life different experiences many different cultural backgrounds and they're very willing to share and the level of enthusiasm and desire to learn I've found really rewarding as a teacher so there's something about the maps class that brings out this kind of dynamic research teaching and fusion there is a small group of very smart very dedicated faculty that are committed to this program to see it become a fantastic program the professors are so supportive of whatever goals you might have that they are willing to help work with you to ensure your success in whatever it may be I think an understanding of the Asia Pacific region is essential for success in any Korea in the st century the maps curriculum offer a variety of subject matters that help student developed culture competency and awareness and the program is very keen on helping student to be competitive in a job market so there are a lot of internship opportunities including the profit organizations or companies that are available to our students I think what delivers the greatest value to me in my professional development has been being able to be the subject matter expert so I definitely feel that the maps program doesn't limit you to just one specific industry or one ideal industry the skills that you gain can be applied in any type of job I think the complexity of east-west relations in the future of our world is such that we need to have a deeper more serious engagement with all kinds of practical avenues of application the ability to engage at a higher level with expert knowledge is something that Maps provides
