“Use your resources!”
Can you land a sweet full-time job even before you graduate from USF? Master of Science in Nursing alumna Nnenna Abaeze ’17 did. Here’s how.
To secure a position before graduation, you need to set yourself up from day one. Meet administrators and staff from different places — I landed a job with the postpartum unit in MLK Community Hospital, Los Angeles. Work in the field you’re interested in starting a career with. Most of all, work with resources to ensure your resume, cover letter, and portfolio are strong. You may need to edit these documents many times, and before you get an interview, they are what recruiters and potential managers will see. Utilize all your resources! USF sends out emails of career fairs and opportunities to speak with recruiters. Do it. It’s important.
I wish I’d known how many resources were available to me. I also wish I had utilized the writing center more. It’s one of the best resources available to USF students. The people there will help you with literally every single writing assignment you have, so make sure to visit at least once.
