University of San Francisco Hosts 5th Annual Master in Marketing Award Highlighting Innovation in Marketing

The September 25 event from the School of Management will Honor Chris Bruzzo, Chief Marketing Officer of Electronic Arts

SAN FRANCISCO (September 20, 2018) -- The Department of Marketing at the University of San Francisco (USF) School of Management will present the fifth annual Master in Marketing Award at a ceremony and reception on Tuesday, September 25th, 2018. This year’s award will go to proven brand visionary Chris Bruzzo, chief marketing officer of Electronic Arts (EA), recognizing his commitment to advancing diversity, creativity and personal development in the workplace - common themes in USF’s mission.

The annual Master in Marketing award ceremony brings together local marketing professionals and industry leaders with the USF network of students, faculty, alumni and friends.

“Marketing, according to industry experts, has changed more in the last five years than in the previous fifty,” noted Nicholas Imparato, the School of Management’s chair of the Marketing Department. “Chris Bruzzo, like our program at USF, has shown skill and insight in leveraging new opportunities in data analytics and digital while also keeping true to a basic requirement - namely, a focus on customers. His accomplishments across several companies, including Amazon and Starbucks, reveal the unusually wide skill set he brings to marketing leadership.”

Bruzzo currently leads EA’s marketing, publishing and analytics initiatives. His career background includes driving the marketing strategy for Amazon Prime, naming the Amazon Kindle, and bringing original content and video to for the first time. At Starbucks, Chris developed the coffee company’s first digital strategy and helped to develop the Starbucks Card Rewards program and mobile application. He also developed iconic campaigns including the Vote initiative, and he worked closely with executives to help the company in its famous turnaround in 2008-2009.

At EA, Chris has pulled marketing together into a single global team, built a world-class analytics and insights function, and is now combining sales and publishing into the team, with direct responsibility for driving global revenue at EA. He is among the few executives who have been able to successfully take their “marketing toolbox” and corporate management skills to a variety of marquee companies across different industries.

“It’s a privilege to receive the 2018 USF Master in Marketing Award,” said Chris Bruzzo, CMO of Electronic Arts. “As marketers, we have the opportunity to create remarkable experiences that truly serve the needs of our customers. This is rooted in the ability to build meaningful connections between the brand and the customer -- and has been my life’s work. I am honored by the recognition.”

The common thread stitching together Chris’s career is his ability to engage and connect with customers, while also building a supportive and inclusive environment for employees, as evidenced in his work as the executive sponsor of EA’s employees resource group for latinos, SomosEA.

“In recent years, the School of Management has made a big effort to tighten the connection between our students and our community,” said Marketing Professor John O’Meara. “At USF we work very hard to help our students develop their future careers while still in school; through internships, summer jobs, in-class speakers and more formal events like this year’s Master in Marketing event. I think it’s terrific that our students get to meet with professionals like Chris Bruzzo, and to hear first-hand what made them a success and how they helped lift up others along the way.”

U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 just-released rankings named USF’s Department of Marketing in the School of Management as the 27th best worldwide. This is the third year in a row that the program has been ranked in the Top 30, reflecting its ability to integrate newer technologies with fundamental marketing tools and ideas.
