USF Sponsors Event: Aligning Values with Work and Daily Life

Conference explores how the search for meaning guides, empowers, and motivates professionals

SAN FRANCISCO—(March 1, 2012)

The University of San Francisco (USF) is proud to sponsor SOCAP: SOUL, a special event to bring together social entrepreneurs, investors, faith leaders, activists, and thought leaders who are all seeking to align what they care about with their professional endeavors, and support their values with the way they spend and invest their money. SOCAP: SOUL will take place Sat., March 3 at Hub SoMa, located at 925 Mission Street in San Francisco. Registration begins at 8am, followed by a day of ‘soul searching,' conversation, reflection, and best practices in living and working with principle.

The event will showcase how earning a living doesn’t have to be separate from devoting oneself to the causes that inspire. This daylong symposium will gather people who see the intersection of money and meaning as imperative not only to business, but also for families neighbors, and people around the world. SOCAP: SOUL will also explore how spirituality (from a range of perspectives and faith traditions) guides, empowers, and unites people of goodwill who are motivated to change the world.

USF is proud to be directly involved with SOCAP: SOUL, an event that so purposefully aligns with the university’s mission and actions, while connecting with the San Francisco business community.”

SOCAP: SOUL speakers include Matt Flannery, co-founder and CEO of Kiva, the world’s first and largest microlending website where anyone, anywhere can help alleviate global poverty through loans as small as $25, Richard Bolles, former canon pastor at Grace Cathedral and author of “What Color is Your Parachute?,” one of the world’s most popular job-hunting books, and Sal Giambanco, who teaches in USF’s Silicon Valley Immersion Program for Global Entrepreneurs, and also leads the human capital and operations functions of the Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm dedicated to harnessing the power of markets to create opportunity for people to improve their lives.

In addition to the keynote speakers, an impressive gathering of nonprofit trailblazers, professional consultants, and leaders in a variety of industries will serve as panelists throughout the day. Notable participants include USF President Stephen A.
