Fifth Annual Day of the Dons Sets Records
The Hilltop was overflowing with support for the university’s annual Day of the Dons on February 28, rallying a record-breaking 2,550 donors to raise $722,646 to support the University of San Francisco.
The annual day of giving has grown quickly — with the support of friends, volunteers, and donors — since 2015, when 1,160 supporters contributed $220,000 for the inaugural Day of the Dons.
Money raised helps USF students by funding more than 80 different scholarships, academic programs, athletic initiatives, and schools on campus.
“USF is timeless,” said Kimberly Garrett ‘00, who made her first gift to USF on the Day of the Dons.
Students, alumni, and staff enjoyed a Day of the Dons carnival at the University Center featuring tic-tac-toe on a doughnut wall and friendly carnival games. USF spread the message about Day of the Dons, posting videos via Facebook Live and Instagram Live, including a video from the Dons basketball game.
“They didn’t have this when I was a student,” said Katy Hoffman ‘04, who visited the carnival on campus. “It’s nice to see the community come together and be united.”
Alumni and supporters from 38 states — and from several international locations — made contributions to USF. Some of the top giving areas on Day of the Dons were:
- The USF Fund
- The USF Scholarship
- The Data Institute
- USF Athletics
- School of Nursing and Health Professions
The fifth annual Day of the Dons would not have been possible without the support of Dons from all over the world coming together to support the future of our university and students. Students said they were inspired to see the community coming together in support of Day of the Dons.
“I love Day of the Dons!” said student Karina Rili ‘19. “I love seeing all of the spirit. I’m so grateful for all the opportunities USF has given me.”
