USF basketball teams debut at the Chase Center
USF basketball will christen the Chase Center next month, playing the first collegiate basketball games in the new home of the Golden State Warriors.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams play Nov. 9, and students will be admitted free but must first RSVP.
“I’m definitely considering going,” said Claire Jacobs ’21, an entrepreneurship major. “It feels like a unique opportunity. We may not have football, but we have basketball at this amazing new arena in San Francisco.”
Tickets for the public start at $25 and go on sale Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. They can be purchased online or at the Chase Center box office.
One ticket is good for both games on Nov. 9. The women’s team takes on Stanford at 3 p.m., and the men tip off at 6 p.m. against Princeton.
Athletic Director Joan McDermott '76 hopes the games will become a tradition.
“It is my hope that these games can become a lasting partnership with our new neighbors in the city,” she said.
The women’s contest pits head coach Molly Goodenbour against her alma mater Stanford, and eight of the true freshman players from last year’s USF team are returning. For the men’s team, Todd Golden kicks off his first season as head coach.
“We are incredibly excited to play the first men’s Division I basketball game in the new Chase Center,” Golden said. “Our student-athletes will get an experience that they will never forget.”
