Guiding Startups and Giving Back from Here

For Joanne Escobar, MSOD ‘96, staying connected to the USF Alumni community for the past 23 years has enriched her life in more ways than one.

Back in 1996, while working full time for AT&T in her hometown of San Jose, CA, Joanne began a career transition and enrolled in USF’s graduate program in Organization Development.

After graduation, Joanne became the General Manager of The Rockefeller Group Business Center. There, she put her Organization Development degree to use, helping many independent business owners and new start-up tech companies manage the growth of their office and real estate needs.

Now, she works as a licensed real estate agent at CSR Commercial, the largest independent residential and commercial brokerage in Silicon Valley.

As a USF alumna, Joanne started going to alumni events right after graduation, with her favorite annual event being the Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Symposium (WILP). From attending these events regularly, she was asked to become the Chair of the Peninsula Silicon Valley Alumni council. Most recently, the council is bringing awareness to the university’s largest capital campaign, prioritizing student scholarships and financial aid, new programs, and expansion of campus facilities. She also finds time to give back as a member of CSR and Catholic Charities, who both assist local nonprofits that help children and families in need.

Joanne says, “Attending USF made me a lifelong learner. It gave me confidence in my ability to pursue anything I want to achieve. I have learned the importance of giving back, the true meaning of social justice, and how we can Change the World From Here.”
