Professor Emeritus

Art Bell, Professor Emeritus, is the former Chair of USF's Department of Organization, Leadership, and Communication. He was a devoted teacher, highly regarded business professional, and author in the emerging field of service leadership. Drawing from his extensive academic and professional background in the humanities, he has taught students the effective communication skills to succeed as future business professionals and leaders.

Having earned his Ph.D. in English at Harvard in 1973, Dr. Bell has taught and held administrative positions in the Business Schools and English Departments at Georgetown University and the University of Southern California. In addition, Art Bell has consulted for renowned leading global clients including Charles Schwab, Wells Fargo, Citibank, American Stores, the U.S. Navy, TRW, Safeway, Cisco, Sun Microsystems, British Telecom, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cost Plus World Market, Deutsche Telekom, the U.S. Coast Guard, New York Life, the U.S. State Department, and IBM.

Dr. Bell has devoted his career to helping students reach their leadership potential. During his tenure, he received USF's Full Professor Faculty Teaching Award and published several books focusing on behavioral and management communication competency. Recently, he has turned his focus on service leadership, an enlightening reexamination of how industries are centered on service management. A prolific author of 52 books, in 2012 Dr. Bell published the book Service Reborn, an investigation of the service leadership discipline as it emerges in international commercial centers and their academies. The book highlights Hong Kong, London, Singapore, New York, and San Francisco, and its implications for global business education and career preparation.
