Rodney Alcantara, Master in Global Entrepreneurial Management '14
Immerse Yourself in Culture from Here
“The MGEM program allows students to immerse themselves in other cultures. You get to work with people from all over the world and gain an appreciation for different points of view you had never been exposed to before.”
Rodney Alcantara, MGEM ‘14, found a global community while studying on three continents through USF.
Rodney Alcantara, Master of Global Entrepreneurial Management (MGEM) ‘14, grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, but when it came to continuing his education, he wanted to branch out. The MGEM program at the University of San Francisco (USF) was the perfect opportunity, as students in the program study in San Francisco, Barcelona and Taipei.
“The MGEM program allows students to immerse themselves in other cultures and learn their business practices through internships and job placement in other countries,” Alcantara said. “You get a to work with people from all over the world and you begin to gain an appreciation for different points of view you had never been exposed to before.”
Alcantra in 2019 joined the sales team at Uber Eats as a manager. Before that, Alcantara began working as an Account Executive at Yelp upon graduation, along with other USF alumni. His experience abroad has been invaluable to his new position.
“Yelp has offices all over the globe and thanks to my experiences with the MGEM program I was already fully acclimated to working in an international environment,” he said.
For Alcantara, the MGEM program has been instrumental to his success personally and professionally.
“I built lasting relationships with classmates that made me feel like part of a tight-knit community that I can ask for help with anything I might need,” he said.
USF and the MGEM exposed me to a world of different viewpoints from international business centers: Spain, Brazil, Columbia, Taiwan, and China to name a few. I can’t overstate what a game changer this has been for me.
