Course Reserves

Course Reserves provide USF students convenient access to print, electronic, and other types of course materials selected by faculty to supplement the classroom experience. Electronic Reserves are accessed from the course Reserves page. Physical materials are available for check out at the Gleeson Library Circulation/Reserves desk.

Students

Students access a faculty’s course Reserves page via the Reserves search box. 

Access to electronic articles require a USFconnect username and password. Click on the “View or Print” link to open an electronic article. All articles are in PDF format, requiring Adobe Reader to view them. Electronic Reserves are accessible at any time. 

Physical materials are located at the Gleeson Library Circulation/Reserves desk and are checked out for the loan period selected by the faculty member. Students are required to present their valid USF ID card when borrowing course Reserves material. Students may borrow up to two course Reserves materials at one time. 

Bookings

If students need course Reserve materials on a specific day or time, they may book them. Bookings on materials can be done over the phone or in person at the Circulation/Reserves desk. If a booked item has not been picked up within 15 minutes of the booking time, the item may go to another student. 

Loan Periods

Faculty will select one of the following loan periods for each physical item placed on course Reserves: 

Library Use Only (LUO)
Materials are borrowed for two-hour periods and must be used in the library. They do not circulate overnight.

Two Hour
Materials are borrowed for two-hour periods and may be taken outside the library. They may be borrowed for overnight use one hour before the library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.

Three Hour Film
Materials are borrowed for three-hour periods and may be taken outside the library. They may be borrowed for overnight use two hours before the library closes and are due one hour after opening the following day.

24 Hour
Materials are borrowed for twenty-four hour periods and may be taken outside the library. 

One Week
Materials are borrowed for one week and may be taken outside the library.

Note: Not all faculty place materials on course Reserve. All materials that are on Reserve are removed at the end of the semester and are placed on only after a faculty’s request.
