Graduate Tax Program Celebrates Five Years
USF Graduate Tax Program students, alumni, and faculty joined with tax practitioners to celebrate the program’s fifth anniversary on Oct. 18 at One Market Restaurant in San Francisco.
“The best part of the evening was seeing so many of our graduates who have successfully launched a career in tax,” said Daniel Lathrope, E.L. Wiegand Distinguished Professor in Tax and academic director of the Graduate Tax Program. “Our early grads have made their mark in the profession and have established the USF brand. And our alumni remain committed to the program and willing to mentor current and future students.”
Since first launching in 2013, the Graduate Tax Program has expanded to offer both an LLM in Taxation and a Master of Legal Studies in Taxation. It is recognized by Tax Talent as the eighth best LLM tax program in the nation. From 2017 to 2018, an average of 94% of USF tax law graduates had jobs the day they graduated.
USF has a unique partnership with Andersen Tax, in which graduate tax students can take courses at Andersen Tax’s San Francisco headquarters, affording them an unusual opportunity to hone their skills and expand their network while studying alongside Andersen managers and associates. Frank Cassidy, managing partner of the San Francisco Andersen Tax office, was in attendance along with several of his colleagues, and they reaffirmed Andersen Tax’s confidence in USF’s students and desire to hire more USF law graduates.
