Matthew Ringard was raised in the Bay Area and completed his undergraduate education at Saint Mary's College of California, with a major in communication. After managing communications and marketing for a firm in the hotel and travel industry for two years, Matthew obtained an MA in Communication and Rhetorical Studies at Syracuse University. He has long been interested in queer politics, history, and rhetoric, as well as cultural studies and feminist theory. More recently, he has developed an interest in place-making and mobility politics, and has begun to study how notions of place and space are rhetorically constructed and communicated, and the relationships such notions have to the material world. Outside of research and teaching, Matthew enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and exploring San Francisco by bike.
