Dr. Lisa D. Cowan received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in Executive Leadership at University of San Francisco in December 2012. Dr. Cowan teaches in the traditional DNP program at USF. She has also taught courses for a Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and for a Master’s of Science in Nursing - Adult Nurse Practitioner program at other universities.
Professionally, Dr. Cowan is clinically trained as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and has worked as a nurse leader for many years in a large integrated managed care organization in California. Licensed in both Missouri and California, she is board certified as an Advanced Nurse Executive. Dr. Cowan is the CEO of her own healthcare consulting company with expertise in virtual leadership. Her work has been published in the journal of Nursing Economic$. In addition to her adjunct faculty role, Dr. Cowan works as a Director of a Family Birth Center in Sacramento.
