Biography
Joel Mackey is practicing attorney serving as the current Executive Director of the West Contra Costa Public Education Fund. He brings over 20 years of experience in legal and policy analysis for organizations, including Making Waves in Richmond, Habitat for Humanity in East Bay, and Harbor House in Oakland. Before embarking upon a career in the nonprofit sector, Joel was employed as an attorney in law firms in both San Francisco and Chicago. His legal expertise in nonprofit legal issues augments his nonprofit legal advising and consulting practice focusing on strategic planning, organizational development, and mediation services to nonprofit organizations.
Professor Mackey has extensive nonprofit experience, including service on numerous nonprofit boards, including East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, Berkeley Community Law Center, the Homeless Action Center, Consumer Credit Counseling, the People’s Credit Union, and the Family Independence Initiative. His areas of expertise also include organizational and leadership ethics, advocacy and lobbying, and community and organizational development.
When not working professionally, Professor Mackey enjoys coaching youth sports, specifically basketball and soccer.
