Dr. Trevathan obtained her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of San Francisco (2009); Master of Business Administration (2006) and Master of Science in Nursing (2003) from Holy Names University. Her doctoral project focused on establishing a partnership between academia and service for the onsite implementation of the Clinical Nurse Leader program. Dr. Trevathan received the Dean’s Medal for Professionalism in Nursing Practice in 2009; is a member of the International Succession Leadership Committee and the Philanthropy Committee of Sigma Theta Tau International; a Virginia Henderson fellow; a Sigma Theta Tau Fellow and has been Chair of the Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC), an autonomous arm of AACN, managing The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) Certification Program. Dr. Trevathan has demonstrated experience in the full spectrum of professional nursing services, including administration and evaluation of nursing care management, program implementation, personnel management, professional development and nursing education.

Dr. Trevathan started at the University of San Francisco as an adjunct professor in 2008. She has faculty experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Trevathan was the Co-Chair of the Master’s Nursing Department and Director of the Online MSN program at USF prior to her current role with the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Dr. Trevathan held leadership positions for more than 10 years with the VA Palo Alto and Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers. She has been instrumental in developing and implementing the Clinical Nurse Leader program at the workplace. She has proven leadership skills in collaborating, managing and motivating health care teams, with the ability to achieve successful results.

Dr. Trevathan has over 30 years of experience in the healthcare arena stemming from insurance underwriter to nurse manager to educator. In addition to being a nursing administrator, her demonstrated passion for the Clinical Nurse Leader’s role in positively impacting the delivery of patient care has aided the growth of the Online MSN program. Her primary educational focus is Leadership. Publications include a journal article in 2010, The Clinical Nurse Leader: A Catalyst in Community Healthcare Transformation-Nurse Leader.

Today, Dr. Trevathan is developing the Educational Outreach team for the USF School of Nursing and Health Professions (SONHP). As the former Associate Dean, her portfolio includes oversight for SONHP online programs and blended courses across departments. She served as a liaison to the additional campus locations and works with faculty and programs as they develop new degree options. Dr. Trevathan managed the SONHP's certificate programs and the school’s transition-to-practice programs; she is also spearheaded the school’s inter-professional core-course module development. Dr. Trevathan is committed to upholding the curricular quality and integrity of USF and the Jesuit tradition.
