LinkedIn Basics Workshop: Getting Your Profile in Shape for Job Searching

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce the basics of using LinkedIn for job searching, including creating your profile headline, summary, and other information for a compelling profile. The workshop is led by Professor Taryn Vian, and is sponsored by the CPHP and HPL concentrations but open to all MPH students.

The workshop is offered on two dates, for maximum flexibility.

Course content includes the following topics:

  1. Why should students be on LinkedIn
  2. Four characteristics of a good LinkedIn page
  3. How to turn off notifications of edits until you’re ready to launch
  4. Three priorities for setting up your LinkedIn page
  5. Tips for the best LinkedIn profile photo
  6. How to create your headline in LinkedIn
  7. Adding the pronunciation of your name
  8. How to customize your URL
  9. Writing a compelling summary (your “virtual introduction”)
  10. Tips for filling in Experience, Education, and Other sections
