The Moot Court Board of the USF School of Law invites you to judge the 2021 Spring Moot Court program for the first-year students. This moot court program is mandatory for all first-year students, challenging them to present an oral argument on an open universe problem assigned to them in their Legal Research, Writing, and Analysis (LRRWA) course. Students are expected to research their topic, write a persuasive brief, and are instructed on how to present an oral argument. The First-Year Oral Argument weekend serves as the close of students’ preparation efforts, where pairs of students argue a motion before a panel of volunteer judges.

USF Law alumni participation is crucial to the continuing success of the Moot Court program and the First-Year Oral Argument Weekend. We seek volunteer judges for the following sessions:

Saturday, April 10: 8:45 a.m – 12:15 p.m OR 12:45 p.m – 5:15 p.m.
Sunday, Apirl 11: 8:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. OR 12:45 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Volunteers will be assigned a specific topic based on their availability. They will be provided with a bench memorandum for the open universe problem as prepared by the case counsels prior to the oral argument weekend. The bench memorandum will include an outline of key facts and authorities, as well as arguments likely to be made by each party to the case. In addition, sample questions will be provided for your convenience. Case counsels will act as bailiffs to your panel of volunteer judges, and they will be able to answer any questions or concerns you have regarding the topic.

To participate as a volunteer judge in the Moot Court program’s 2021 First-Year Oral Argument weekend, please sign up by April 5, 2021.

More event and Zoom training details will be provided in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, please email the Moot Court Board at usfmootcourt@gmail.com.

The Moot Court Board is thankful for your support of our programs and looks forward to connecting with you.
